Apple launched the iPhone 5S & the iPhone 5C at the company’s headquarters on Tuesday, which will now replace the iPhone 5. This means that Apple will no longer produce iPhone 5 anymore, and will sell only the stock that is already available with retailers in the market.
The company said that it will continue with its iPhone 4S model, which will be available for free in its 8GB version. The company’s US website now sports only three iPhone models for consumer comparison, the iPhone 4S, 5C and 5S.
Apple’s latest iPhones come in a bevy of colors and two distinct designs, one made of plastic and the other that aims to be “the gold standard of smartphones.”
Apple iPhone 5S Features
Touch ID – Fingerprint Scanner
The most talked about feature since the lauch of iPhone 5S has been the Fingerprint Scanner. Built into the home button, Touch ID uses a laser cut sapphire crystal, together with the capacitive touch sensor, to take a high-resolution image at about 550ppi of your fingerprint. Touch ID will allow you to authenticate Appstore purchases and app updates besides providing security lock to the iPhone 5S.
64 bit A7 chip and M7 motion co-processor
The iPhone 5S comes with the new A7 chip, the most notable change on the inside of the phone. This Apple claims is the world’s first 64 bit desktop-class architecture in a smartphone. The processor is more than twice as fast as the A6, with a 40x CPU performance bump. Graphics are said to be 56x faster. The phone supports a brand new part called the M7, which is a motion sensor. It works alongside the A7 to continuously monitor motion from the gyroscope, accelerometer, and compass.
Display & Body
The display of the new iPhone 5S remains the same at 4.0” with a pixel density of 326 ppi. The iPhone 5s certainly doesn’t look all that different from the iPhone 5. It has a two-tone back panel, albeit in new colors, and the same slim design we have seen before. However, the home button has changed a bit. The rounded square icon in the middle of the button has a ring around it.
8MP iSight Camera with True Tone Flash
The iPhone 5S boasts of a new 8MP iSight camera, which features a larger f/2.2 aperture and a new, larger sensor with 1.5μ pixels for better sensitivity and low-light performance. The camera has capability to shoot 10 frames-per-second in burst mode, and 120 frames-per-second slow motion video at 720p. When you take a photo, the camera takes multiple photos and picks the sharpest one for your viewing pleasure.
The dual LED Flash, called the True Tone Flash by Apple adjusts colour and intensity for over 1,000 combinations to give better images under dark light conditions.
The new iPhone 5S now comes in three new different colours called Gold, Silver and Space Grey. Apple has also introduced new leather covers for the device with 6 colours to choose from i.e. beige, black, blue, brown, yellow and red.
The iPhone 5S comes with iOS 7, Apple’s latest redesigned UI along with the option to download the iWorks apps Suite for free which includes iPhoto, iMovie, Pages, Numbers and Keynote apps that are otherwise paid for apps.

The iPhone 5S is rumoured to be priced at around Rs. 50,000 in India for the 16GB version and upwards for the others.
