Finnish firm Nokia launched six new devices at Nokia World 2013 in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. The new launches include five new phones and Nokia’s first ever tablet. Three of the five phones are in its budget Asha series, while the others are in the Nokia Lumia series which runs on the Microsoft Windows Phone OS.
BIG THINGS FIRST – LUMIA TABLET
Nokia revealed its first ever tablet, as the company launched the 10.1-inch Lumia 2520, which runs Microsoft Windows RT 8.1 and supports 4G LTE and WiFi connectivity. Nokia tablet will be available in the US later this year for $499 (roughly Rs 30,000). As of now it is not confirmed whether this tablet would be launched in India. Nokia said that users can charge around 80 per cent of the battery in an hour. The battery lasts up to 11 hours on a single charge. Nokia also claims the Lumia 2520 provides the best reading experience under sunlight.
The tablet, which includes a key board, is likely to cost customers around Rs. 40,000 before taxes. Nokia will also provide keyboard at additional cost of USD 149 (about Rs. 9,000) before taxes.
“Lumia 2520 is Nokia’s first tablet and a natural extension to Lumia family,” Nokia’s Executive Vice President Devices & Services Stephen Elop said here. Nokia will start shipping Lumia 2520 to US, UK and Finland this quarter. It would be shipped to additional markets in the first quarter of 2014.
ASHA SERIES :
One of the popular phones under the Nokia banner is the Asha series. Nokia launched 3 new Asha phones, 500, 502 and 503 on Tuesday at Abu Dhabi.
Nokia 500 has 2.8 inch screen size and rest of the two Asha phones, 502 and 503 have 3-inch display. While Nokia 500 and Nokia 503 will come in dual SIM option, Nokia 502 will have only single SIM option.
All the three Asha phones will be available in five colours Black, Bright Red, Bright Green, Yellow, Cyan and White.
It is said that all of these will be available in India in the coming weeks. The operating system has upgraded for features such as better privacy features (choose which updates show up on the homescreen) and improved camera and photo sharing interface. Whats to look forward is that WhatsApp co-founder Jan Kuom was at the event to announce that the messaging application will be available on the new Asha phones in a few weeks. This app was not available in previous models.
Nokia declared that Asha 500 costs $69 (roughly Rs 4,200), 502 is priced at $89 (around Rs 4,800) and the 503, which has 3G connectivity, will be available for $99 (Rs 6,000 approx.).
1320 and 1520 LUMIA SMARTPHONES
Nokia also unveiled two smartphones under the Nokia Lumia series with 6 inch screen size, Nokia Lumia 1320 and 1520, priced at USD 339 (about Rs. 21, 000) and USD 749 (about Rs. 46,000) before taxes. While Elop announced that Nokia Lumia 1320, which has 5 MP rear camera will be available in India in first quarter of 2014, the Lumia 1520 which has 20 megapixel camera will start selling in leading countries from this quarter namely Hong Kong, Singapore, China, UK, France and other European market.
No timeline for launch of Nokia Lumia 1520 in India was shared by the company.
