At 6.4-inches, Sony launched Sony Xperia Z Ultra, the largest handset to hit the Indian market in July. The smart phone is a clear combination of both a smart phone and a tablet, popularly called a “Phablet”. The Sony Xperia Z Ultra has borrowed many design elements from the Xperia Z smartphone. The prominent one being the water proof capability. Considering the size, whether it is going to be a hit among the users or not only time will tell.
Sony Xperia Z Ultra has Sony’s new Triluminos display, which uses the same panel technology used in its 2013 BRAVIA TVs. Also the reason behind the stunning bright and vivid pictures. The build of the phone is very good and even with a thickness of just 6.5 mm, it feels sturdy. Sony calls this the “world’s slimmest Full HD smartphone”. The tough tempered glass coat and anti-shatter film on the device make it shock and splash resistant. Even the 3.5mm headphone jack, which is not covered by any flap, is water resistant.
The phone’s waterproof capabilities mean you can film full HD videos underwater, and there’s also HDR for both still photos and videos. Something which is rare among the other high-end Android offerings.
If you got your hands on the smart phone, you must have observed that the front and back of the phone are extremely glossy. The Sony Xperia Z Ultra flaunts a 6.44-inch Full HD 1080p display with Triluminos technology. This is the first phone with the 28nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core (Krait 400 cores, which offer higher clock speeds than Krait 300) processor clocking at 2.2GHz.
Unlike the Samsung Note series smartphones which come equipped with their own stylus, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra doesn’t work on the same. Wondering what you can use as a stylus with this phone? The answer is any pencil or ball point pen will work as the stylus.
Sony Xperia Z Ultra C6802 runs on the latest Android Jelly Bean. The camera comprises of an 8MP back camera and a 2MP front camera; both the cameras are capable of recording full 1080p HD videos. According to Sony, the use of the Blue LED as the backlight in tandem with the quantum dots will increase the range of the colours on the display by as much as 50%, in comparison with the conventional backlighting. Other features include Adreno 330 GPU, NFC, Wi-Fi, 3G, 16GB flash memory, 64GB expansion, screen mirroring, and 3000 mAh battery.
On the connectivity front, the device packs in Wi-Fi, NFC, 3G, micro USB and Bluetooth and is backed with a 3,050 mAh battery delivering 16 hours of talk time and 820 hours of standby time. The device is fueled with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS.
